ШЛЯПА, КОТОРУЮ Я НОШУ У СЕБЯ В ГОЛОВЕ: Беседа с Джеффри Филбертом

This livestream brings together Mikhail Sergeev, historian of modern and contemporary art, and New Jersey–based artist, sculptor, and poet Jeffrey Filbert, a longtime faculty member at Rutgers University, where he teaches Painting, Figure Drawing, Design, and Printing. The conversation will trace the major periods of Filbert’s development as a visual artist — from early explorations of material and form to the distinctive painterly and sculptural language he has shaped over the years. The second half of the broadcast turns to Filbert’s poetry, examining how his written work intersects with the themes, imagery, and sensibilities of his visual practice. The livestream will conclude with a live Q&A, where Jeffrey Filbert will respond directly to questions from viewers. JEFFREY FILBERT studied at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), where he won many awards, including the prestigious Scheidt Traveling Scholarship Award, which he used to study in Europe. In 2007, he was awarded a New Jersey Council on the Arts Grant for sculpture, and in 2026, he received a New Jersey Council on the Arts Grant for painting. For the last twenty-five years, he has maintained a studio in Camden, New Jersey, where he is an adjunct Professor at Rutgers University, teaching Painting, Figure Drawing, Design, and Printing. He has a diverse body of work that centers around the figure as his main source of inspiration. His most recent show was silkscreen paintings, “Beyond the Veil”, at Rosemont College in November of 2025. An upcoming show will be at the Marlin Gallery at Camden County College this September. It will include works from his new series of realistic paintings.
